Replacing windows is a purchase where two quotes can rarely be compared at a glance. This guide explains what makes the price go up or down and what a clear quote should put in writing, so that you compare like with like.
What affects the price of replacing windows
- The material: PVC or aluminium, and the profile system within each. If you are undecided, read PVC or aluminium windows: which to choose.
- The size and the number of leaves: a single-leaf window is not the same as a multi-leaf sliding door or a large glazed opening.
- The opening type: casement, tilt-and-turn, sliding, lift-and-slide or folding.
- The glass: double or triple glazing, solar control, acoustic or safety glass. See double glazing and solar control.
- The colour and finish, inside and outside.
- An integrated shutter, if you want one, and how it is operated.
- Measuring and installation: whether the supplier measures and fits, or you do it with your own installer (windows without installation).
- Transport, delivery and access to the property.
Quantity matters too: for orders of 5 or more windows or doors there is a special volume price.
What a good quote should say
- Each opening on its own line, with its measurements and its opening side seen from inside.
- The glass, colour and finish of each window.
- The handles, locks and other accessories included.
- Who takes the measurements and who installs.
- Which legal guarantee applies and what limits it.
- The delivery time in writing and how long the quote is valid.
- The terms of sale and payment, before you pay anything.
Why two quotes for the same number of windows can be so different
A very cheap window from the internet is not usually the same thing as a made-to-measure window with the right glass, hardware and a reviewed measurement. Sometimes the glass you need, the measuring, the transport or the installation is missing. It is not that one option is good and the other bad: they simply do not include the same things. Always ask what is and is not included in the price.
How to measure before ordering
Measure the opening at three points across the width and three along the height, and always note the smallest figure. State the opening side as seen from inside. If in doubt, send us photos of the opening with a tape measure in view and we will check them before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to replace the windows in a home?
It depends on the material, the number and size of the openings, the glass, the opening type and the hardware. We do not publish fixed prices because every home is different: we give you a written quote, line by line.
Can I order only the windows, without installation?
Yes. We supply them made to measure for you or your installer. Whoever places the order (you or your installer) takes the measurements and is responsible for them; if you prefer us to measure, ask for it in the quote.
From how many windows is there a special volume price?
From 5 windows or doors (each opening counts as one unit) included in a single quote and accepted at the same time. The price and its terms are stated in writing in your quote.
What do I need to get a quote?
The list of openings with width, height and opening side seen from inside, the material you prefer (PVC, aluminium or advice), the colour and the town. If you do not have everything, send what you have, with photos showing a tape measure.
